Equipment List

Patrol Sled & Equipment

  • 3 ropes - 15 m (50 ft) long to assist in events
  • Blanket or quilt for stretcher carry
  • Rope for securing the load to the sled
  • Tarp to wrap sled contents; also handy to sit on at lunch. ( 10 X 12 ft. or larger )
  • Small shovel
  • Patrol Roster (including Patrol name and Patrol Leader’s name)
  • Notebook and Pencil
  • Scout Handbook
  • Roll of Toilet Paper
  • Mess kit with pan (for cooking a pancake)
  • Tinder, Kindling, and fire wood to make a small fire for cooking a pancake
  • Flint and Steel fire starting set
  • Mid morning snack: trail mix and hot drink in a thermos
  • First Aid Kit
  • Extra triangular bandages and splints (for first aid event; don't open first aid kit for this)
  • One Plastic Garbage bag
  • Small roll of duct tape
  • 1 gallon of drinking water
  • Large blanket
  • Compass
  • Extra socks, mittens (just in case)
  • Eating utensils, bowl and one cup per person (non-disposable)

Scout Equipment

  • Long underwear or other warm layers covering entire body
  • Sweater or fleece
  • Troop or patrol activity shirt or Scout uniform
  • Winter coat
  • Snow pants
  • Winter hat
  • Gloves or mittens
  • Insulated winter snow boots (must keep the snow out by having right tops, wearing gaiters—No tennis shoes.
  • Totin’ Chip/Firem’n Chit/ Whittling Chip (required – will be used at stations)
  • Tent and ground tarps
  • Sleeping bag and ground pad, extra blankets
  • Flashlight
  • Eating utensils (not provided for lunch on Saturday)
  • Pocket knife

Scout Leader Stuff

  • Klondike Troop Roster (including adults)
  • Local tour permit
  • Plate, cup, and eating utensils for lunch (lunch is provided for everyone)
  • Materials for your event (Go over this Leader’s Guide very carefully)
  • Registration and medical forms (required)
  • Copy of Guide to Safe Scouting (current edition)
  • Your own gear (see “Scout Equipment” section)
  • Any other necessary gear (stove, burn barrel, wood, etc.)

NOTE: Remember that only Saturday lunch is provided—individual units are responsible for all other meals.

Competitions

Station activities test the leadership, time management and skill of patrols.  Activities are not timed, so those with practiced skill levels may complete stations faster than others, while others who are learning skills may spend more time at a station, resulting in a higher skill level but fewer competition points. The Sled Inspection station is required to place.  Read more...
